Discover the Barcelona Gothic district by the hand of an architect’s guide.
The urban layout of the Barcelona Gothic quarter, enclosed within the walls, was a labyrinth of narrow streets. We will still see part of the old town, located in the east of Via Laietana. Discovering the authentic architectural gems embedded in the plots, which were barracks or monasteries, giving a new quality to a district quite degraded.
Some of the most important were construction of the Palau de la Música or the transformation of the former Dominican convent in Santa Caterina market.
The Passeig del Born, where one time medieval tournaments were held, has been gradually changing its use, from Central Market grocery to area of design and nightlife entertainment. On this route we will see how it is possible to combine medieval urban fabric with modern buildings.

- Starting point: COAC – College of Architects of Catalonia). Pl. Nova, 5 (opposite the Cathedral). Underground: L1 and L4: shutdown Urquinaona (L1 / L4), stop Jaume I (L4) Bus: 17, 45 and V17.
