At first sight

Discovering Eixample Barcelona, how Cerdà designed it and see all modernism’s architecteurs works guided tour with an architect

Barcelona, like many other European cities in the second half of the nineteenth century, decided to overthrow their defensive walls to urbanizer the area and allow a massive economic and urban expansion.

The new street network of the Cerdà Plan (Eixample Barcelona) was not a totally uniform design. They emphasized some main roads: the most important of all was the Paseo de Gracia, which linked the old town of Barcelona with the most important and popular nearby: Vila de Gracia.

In the field of architecture the most important figures were Antoni Gaudí (Casa Milà and Casa Batlló), Josep Puig i Cadafalch (Casa Amatller and the Palace of the Marquès de Quadres) and Lluis Domenech i Montaner (Casa Lleó Morera and Casa Fuster).
